The Third annual ‘Interwoven’ exhibition celebrated textiles and fashionacross a new, rich and varied display of fabric designers and textile artisans from Sydney and the ACT.

Interwoven is a highlight on the fashion/textile scene and the exhibitors range from recent graduates to more established designers.

This year the exhibition was held at The Gaffa Gallery which is partly funded by The Australia Council. The exhibition offers designers and artisans the opportunity to present their work in a gallery context – with the work moving from explorations in new technology, digital art pieces; to locally-printed silk screen textiles that extend into home wares applications. The emphasis this year was on “hand-done”.

The Eco Collective launched their new textile fashion label ‘Circle Of Designers’ - Design at its core /Textiles at the core. This label uses an evolving array of Australian textile design for their timeless classical skirts and accessories - all using eco inks and hand printed on natural fibres.

This group is made up of a select group of Australian textile designers, Philippa Wilkinson, Karen Brock and Sophie Seeger, who produce inspiring ranges that marry art and design to work across fashion and soft-furnishings – from themed designs; Australian botanicals, to Indigenous-inspired abstracts. The result is a beautiful and inspiring comprehensive range to work with; from one-off pieces bespoke pieces, to holistic design in eco development projects.

The Federation ultimately seeks to redefine the perspective of women entrepreneurship – from contribution to economic growth and poverty alleviation towards participation of women at all levels in the socio economic sectors.
